“Read the Constitution. Pick it up and tell me that we are doing the wrong thing. Tell me where it says we should advance the cause of discrimination.”

Gavin Newsom 2004
You can tell this was quite the media event. The guy with the video camera was shooting for a local TV station. Immediatey following the ceremony, these two very lovely brides were interviewed for the evening news. But in spite of all the media and only a few protesters, the atmosphere was one of joy and love as couples were allowed to marry for the first time. Many couples that I photographed had been together for decades! I was impressed by the number of newly married that had their children with them. It was very much a family event.
I’m honored to have played a small part as a witness for some of the ceremonies, and thrilled to have been able to record this historic event. An event that will certainly retain it’s splendor for the participants, but on a societal level become ordinary when we stop discriminating against same-sex couples.
